Having been a Social Worker, and run a Child Care Centre, Shaelene began her career in the disability sector in 1996, becoming Principal of a school for Children and Young Adults with Severe Disability near Durban, South Africa. In 2005 she migrated to Australia, settling in Tasmania with her family, where she has since worked in Child Care and then returned to the Disability Sector in 2008.
She has worked as a Child & Family Advocate, Co-Ordinator of Supports, University Tutor, Disability Liaison Officer and VET Trainer & Teacher
Shaelene is registered Developmental Educator, and holds degrees in Disability Studies (Masters, 2015); Early Childhood Intervention (Masters 2003); Alternative & Augmentative Communication (Honours, 2003); and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology (1993.)
