
After training as a Social Worker and obtaining an Honours Degree in Developmental Psychology, Shaelene began her career in the disability sector running an inclusive Child Care Centre. In 1996, she became Principal of a school for Children and Young Adults with Severe Disability near Durban, South Africa.
In 2005, Shaelene migrated to Australia, settling in Tasmania with her family, where she has since worked in child care and then returned to the Disability Sector in 2007. She has worked as a Child & Family advocate, Coordinator of Support, University Tutor, Disability Liaison Officer, and VET Trainer & Teacher.
Shaelene is a registered Developmental Educator and holds degrees in Disability Studies (Masters, 2015), Early Childhood Intervention (Masters 2003), Augmentative & Alternative Communication (Honours, 1999), and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology (1993).
